Teen Job SearchAre There Still Jobs Out There For Teens?Don’t let the current state of the economy affect your teen job search.Jobs are still there, they may just be tougher to snag. Your teen’s best tools to use to make them stand above the other applicants are:-
Dress for Success
It is said that we have 3 seconds to make a good impression when we meet someone for the first time!
And no matter what happens after that, it's generally those first few seconds that will influence the outcome. So how can your teen show their potential employer that they are trustworthy, capable, committed and intelligent? You teen will need to be:-
It's enough to tie most teens in knots. Even if they can just be careful about the way they dress they'll improve their chances in their teen job search. Your teen may think that because they are going for a job interview at the local fast-food restaurant (where they just about live anyway) that they can turn up in whatever they usually wear. Not so. While the manager may be acquainted with your teen's ability to eat enough fries to sustain a small village, he may not have a clue about how your teen would perform as a worker, and that's what's important here. Your teen will need your guidance here. No matter where the job is, the minimum standard of dress is a tidy button-down shirt with slacks or a skirt of modest length.
If it's an office job your teen will need a suit.
TIP: What do the people who work there wear? If it's very business like then they'll need to turn up in business attire (or as close as you can get). If it's a stablehand or a lawn mowing job, then dress in the tidy shirt and pants as described above. Don't forget that your teen should be neatly dressed even if they are just popping in to ask for a job application. If she's fully decked out in Goth gear, then the person handing over the form will remember this and it does make a difference even if it's not meant to. And what if they decide to do preliminary screening or interview on the spot? It would be a shame if your teen job search stopped before they even got started just because of a lack of preparation.
Showcase Those Skills In A Resume
Your teenager may think that they don’t need a resume, or that they have nothing to put on one. The job they are applying for may not even ask for one. But be assured, if they turn up with even just a one page CV they are going to make a better impression on their potential employer than those who are empty handed. Has your teen ever done any of the following?
All of these extracurricular or self employed activities show:-
Just the skills a potential employer may well be looking for. TIP: Formats and styles for resumes change frequently. Parenting Quote![]() Adolescents are not monsters. They are just people trying to learn how to make it among the adults in the world, who are probably not so sure themselves.
