Your pet is an important part of the family – so I know you take pet health advice seriously…

Never leave quality pet health advice to chance. We love our families; we love our kids…and our pets? You better believe it!

How do I tell if my pet is unwell?

You know your pet better than anyone. If they just don’t seem themselves then it’s probably worth getting them checked out.

If they aren’t very active, not interested in their favorite toy, or worse not eating or drinking, then something is definitely up.

Naturally, if they collapse or are very distressed you need to take them to your vet immediately.

Animals don’t always react to illness in the same way as humans. They can still be active with an injury.

Get into the habit of giving your pet a quick once over every day. This sounds like a chore, but it can be fun. I’ll use a dog as an example:

• Sit next to your dog and run your hands all over its body in firm strokes – your dog will love it.

• Run your hands over each leg in turn checking if your dog jerks away in pain.

• Have a look between each “toe” checking for grass seeds or ticks or scratches.

• Make sure the claws are in good shape.

• Rub your dog’s tummy and right up around each leg.

• Go over the head and in the ears.

• Have a close look at their eyes and teeth if they will let you.

Basically you are checking for areas that seem uncomfortable, for grass seeds that can stick in and cause irritation, ticks or fleas, injuries or scratches.

You can do this with any pet…maybe not fish…It only takes a minute or two and can catch a problem early.

The best source of pet health advice is your Vet.

Anytime you are concerned about your pet’s health or behavior take them to your Vet.
