Creative Ideas and Good Advice from Better-Living-Ideas

About This Site

Are you wondering about this site?

It’s always good to meet the person giving you advice, and I certainly wouldn’t expect you to take advice from a stranger!

So here goes:

parent, mother, writer
Hi, I’m Nerida. I’m the editor and owner of Better Living Ideas.com

I live in beautiful south eastern Australia with my family.

I’m passionate about my family, home life and parenting. The way I see it, life revolves around home, and home is kids, pets and food!

I love to talk it all over with friends, find out what works well for them and what doesn’t; pinpoint where the problems are and to swap ideas on how to improve them.

I realized very early on in my parenting life that an enormous amount of the specialized skills and knowledge we acquire becomes obsolete as our children grow up.

I was amazed to think just how much wisdom was being wasted or lost as parents moved on to new phases in their lives.

If Only There Was A Way To Capture It All!

Site Build It!

When the time came for me to start a business I remembered all this and Better Living Ideas.com came about as a way of sharing all the information I had gathered.

I’ve always loved writing and researching the articles for this website is my idea of fun. I just love it.

I see this site as being for parents who need some inspiration to solve a problem they’ve come up against. Often we already know what we need to do, we’ve either forgotten, or don’t trust ourselves, or maybe we just need to know what worked for someone else.

But of course, Better Living Ideas.com isn’t just for parents, it’s more than that. It’s also about caring for our beloved pets. They are family members too and need our attention and time.

Better Living Ideas.com is also about food. I don’t know about you, but it’s constantly on my mind. Everything from “Is my daughter eating enough?” to “Oh no, is it dinner time already?” and “Hey, how come all my clothes shrunk in the last wash?” Which means looking at healthier food choices and taking more care with what we all eat.

I never get tired of it all. It’s home life. It’s home, and it’s the only place I want to be.

So Why Did I Decide On A Website?

This short answer is that I needed something I could do 100% at home.

My husband was lucky enough to be offered a position that would take us to live in a tiny country town. We jumped at the chance to leave the city and packed up our 6 month old daughter and headed to a new life in rural Victoria.

It is just beautiful here and after living in the city for most of my adult life, I’m still amazed every day by just how fantastic it is to be part of a small community.

We’d only been out here for 12 months when my husband suddenly became too ill to work. The community was so kind and supportive of us that we quickly decided we would be better off staying in the country and having to travel for medical appointments, than to move back to the city.

Certainly access to medical care would have been easier if we'd moved back to the city, but there would have been no support network and all the pressures that come with city life.

Besides, we'd fallen in love with this little town and the people in it. How could we possibly move away?

Our decision to stay has proven to be a wise one, but it does mean no chance of local work.

I felt that there must be a way to work at home. Completely at home. No hour long commutes every day, no party plan, no running around making deliveries, and no trips to the city for seminars.

I suspect my friends felt I’d set an impossible goal for myself, but I didn’t give up. I spent at least a year, searching the internet regularly looking for business or job opportunities.

I completed some correspondence courses in professional writing and found online agencies for freelancers. I felt I was close to finding what I wanted.

Then I came across Sitesell.com with their simple website building system called Site Build It! (or SBI! for short), and for the first time I realized that instead of writing for other people, I could write for myself and have my own website.

The more time I spent reading the free ebooks and information on the SBI! website, the more I came to realize that there was no reason I couldn’t have my own website and my own home business.

I Need To Be Sure

I like to research things before I get too committed, so I took my time. I kept researching the whole idea for another 12 months before I signed up. Here's the proof I needed to finally get moving.

The day my daughter started school is the day I signed up. I had a little tear as I left her to start her new phase in life, then I rushed home so I could start mine!

Make Your Knowledge Sell
I'd love you to take a look at this free ebook so you can see what I mean.

It's called "Make Your Knowlege Sell" and is all about how to recognise how important your skills and knowledge are, and how to turn that into a business.

And it’s definitely the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. SBI! have been there every step of the way. They have given me all the tools I’ve needed to fully research my site and to construct it.

I’d never built a website before but with all the tools and resources SBI! provided, it didn’t matter a bit. Any time I was stuck there was the Action Guide to talk me through it or the forums to talk it over with others who have been there before me.

I don’t know of any other source of business mentoring that can match this quality or level of care.

SBI! has a philosophy of taking your time to get it right, and to build slowly for a solid business. Completely different from all the “Get Rich Quick” deals offered elsewhere on the web. And just what I wanted: a real, solid business with real, solid results.

So Now I Have A Website

It’s the first time in my life I can genuinely say that I love going to work. In fact, I’m guilty of sneaking off to work in the holidays because I miss it!

I structure my work day around my daughter’s schooling and my husband. I still have time to volunteer at the school or community events that come up, and I’m always here for my family. I could probably spend more time on house work but….well, who wants to do that?

You Can Run Your Own Business Too

If you’ve ever thought about having your own business or working from home then you need to take a look at SBI. It’s not just me, click here and see what other people have to say about SBI!

Maybe you’ve got a hobby or an issue that you are passionate about? Why not share it with everyone…there’s a whole world of people out there just waiting to find out what you know and have to say.

Site Build It!

I feel so much more in control of my life now. I feel confident that no matter what else happens in our life, that with SBI!’s help, my business will continue to grow.

Why don't you go ahead and build your own future!

So there you have it. Now you know about me and about this site.

better living ideas jigsaw I hope you’ll visit often and find what you are looking for.

Wishing you better living,
Nerida

PS: My daughter says I wrote too much!

"Don't eat anything your great-great grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. There are a great many food-like items in the supermarket your ancestors wouldn't recognize as food... stay away from these."
